About Me

Hi! My name is Christy and I’ve been using the name Athravan on the internet since I was 12 years old. In fact, my husband only knew me as Athravan for several years when we first met online over 10 years ago (on a game, naturally)! It’s a bit of a mouthful so I often go by “Ath” for convenience sake. I’m 34 years old and I’m Welsh. I live with my American husband and our young son, our German Shepherd Dog, a Bengal Cat and a Ragdoll. And a hundred or two snakes and lizards, as you do.

I work with reptiles and exotic animals, but I specialize in snakes. I’m passionate about animal welfare, especially within the pet trade.

My main hobby is gaming. I own over 1200 games on steam that I purchased myself (many through bundles & sales). If I win the lottery, I’ll be buying every game on steam. Now where did I put that ticket… You can add me on steam and I will accept your friend request as long as your profile is not level 0. Don’t try any tricks though, like spam or bots or dick pics. Trust me, I’ve been there before. I like to travel and I write reviews on TripAdvisor. I write tech reviews on Amazon. I decided to start a personal site just to amalgamate some of my opinions into one location.

I’m now blogging about travel, local events and my life as a mum on my parenting blog.

I love reading and in 2015 I did the “read 100 books in a year” challenge. Not only did I read them all, I reviewed every single one too on Goodreads. The birth of my son has eaten into my reading time quite a lot (I used to have free time… what happened?) but I hope to complete this challenge again in the future! Most of my book reviews are from free advanced review copies that I received from the publishers through NetGalley, but this is clearly stated in each review. It’s a great way to try new books and discover authors I wouldn’t otherwise have known about and I get some shiny badges too.

My “reviews” are my opinion only. I’m not a professional writer (I self published some erotica once, does that count?). Sometimes I’m just plain wrong. Sometimes I’m downright stupid. Sometimes my opinion changes over time. But I try to be honest to myself and to anyone who might want to read the words I write!
